Yesterday was actually a pretty good day despite not hitting all of my goals. The reason it was a good day is the lessons I learned from it.
I was a bit distracted in the morning and was at risk of letting the day get away from me – however at 8am I removed all distractions and told myself I would work until 3pm without food and then do a few other jobs after that. The reason for this was to get my 8 hours done consecutively.
I ended up stopping at 12pm and having lunch, and then wasting an hour, but there was enough learnt from that period to show me this is the right track. I then went for a 10km run at 4pm which I really didn’t want to do but I just pushed through.
Throughout that morning there were long difficult stretches where I wanted to quit but I didn’t quit which is what I’m proud of. When I looked back on the day, my regret was quitting at 12pm rather than continuing to keep pushing.
A key point is that I don’t need to keep making massive progress, I just need to keep making some progress and not quitting. This needs to be my mantra throughout the day. This is what I want every day to look like – sitting down and grinding through the work despite how tough it is. Resisting other pleasurable options or distractions.
Then there are massive gains to come from end of the day reflections to see if I’m on track or not, and also from doing flashcards at the end of the day.
I need this business to start making money otherwise I’m going to be stuffed shortly. I don’t have much work coming in, and a lot of what I do have coming in, is low margin. I need to work on building value, building margins, and getting the pipeline of work full.
Today I need to go again and be relentless in continuing to build this business. I know I can do it but time is running out. I know what I can deliver, I just need to get better at executing consistently.
I have some work in front of me today, so I need to work at getting this done well so it leads to more referrals, and delay eating and distractions etc. It’s important that I always complete all the work that is right in front of me first as this is the best place for referrals.
